What is temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ/TMD)?
Temporomandibular joint disorder, often abbreviated as either TMJ or TMD, is a painful condition in which the joint where your lower jaw attaches to your skull becomes inflamed and no longer works properly. Common symptoms of TMJ/TMD include popping and clicking in the joint, pain that radiates into the neck and shoulders and along the jaw, locking or sticking of the jaw in an open or closed position, or a chronic headache.
If you are experiencing these symptoms, call our Elk Grove Village dental office today. Dr. Vishal Advani can perform an examination and determine whether your pain is caused by TMJ/TMD. If so, we have therapeutic options available that can ease your pain and relieve the pressure on the joint.
