Are dental sealants safe?
Dental sealants are a safe and effective way to prevent cavities in the back teeth of children -- one of the most common places that cavities occur. Sealants are made of plastic. They are applied to the teeth as a liquid and are then cured. The sealants last for about five years. If necessary, they can then be reapplied.
