How can I get the most out of my teeth whitening treatment?
If you have recently whitened your teeth, you probably want to keep your beautiful, fresh new look forever. That is understandable! Your smile is an investment in you, and since you now look great, you don’t want to mess it up!
If you are thinking of teeth whitening in Elk Grove Village, give us a call and we can answer all your questions. In the meantime, here are a few tips to keep your smile white and bright.
Avoid Staining Foods for 48 Hours after Whitening
It is important to remember that your teeth are more susceptible to stains right after you whiten your teeth. This is because the microscopic pores are more open and dry after the whitening process and they may collect stains more quickly.
Foods such as beets, curry, coffee, red wine, and berries could cast a colorful hue over your new smile. While these foods always stain your teeth and those stains build up over time, it is important to avoid things like colorful cake frosting, bright sodas or juices, and even mouthwash that has a color right after you whiten. You could end up with a blue or green smile!
Tobacco Use – A Quick Way to Darken Your Smile
If you use tobacco, whether smoking or chewing, right after you whiten your teeth is a good time to stop. Not only does tobacco use have a negative impact on your health, but it also turns your smile brown and yellow!

Can’t Live without Coffee?
Coffee is a ritual in the morning for many of our patients (and staff!). If you must drink coffee in the mornings following your teeth whitening treatment, let it cool down and sip it through a straw. This will allow much of the coffee to bypass your newly whitened teeth. Be sure to brush after you’re done!
