Dental Extractions Including Wisdom Teeth in Elk Grove Village, IL
While nobody likes to have teeth removed, dental extractions may be necessary for a number of reasons. In some cases, a tooth may be too damaged to save while in others, a tooth may be decayed to a point where it is putting other teeth at risk. If you have teeth that are crowded or overlapping, it may be necessary to extract some teeth in order to make room in your mouth before orthodontics can be used to move your teeth into a more functional position.
Whatever the reason for your extraction, it’s important to have this type of procedure performed by a skilled and caring dental provider. Dr. Vishal Advani in Elk Grove Village, IL is experienced in all tooth extractions, including the more difficult wisdom teeth.
Dr. Advani is very skilled in Oral Surgery and is able to safely and quickly remove wisdom teeth and other broken teeth with a painless technique. While other dentists refer out patients who need extractions, you have the benefit of having your family dentist performing the procedure in a safe, comfortable, and familiar environment.
Extracting Wisdom Teeth
Most people get their wisdom teeth around the age of 20. Unfortunately, it’s common for these teeth to come in incorrectly, leading to pressure on other teeth and impaction, which means that the tooth does not fully erupt and remains either partially or completely under the gum. Wisdom tooth impaction is painful and can create a situation where bacteria are able to get underneath the gum line and cause infections. Additionally, impacted wisdom teeth are very difficult to brush and may decay. For these reasons, it is better to have impacted wisdom teeth removed.
The ease with which your wisdom tooth extraction can be performed depends a great deal on how severely impacted your wisdom teeth are and whether they are under gum tissue or if bone is involved. If the tooth is minimally impacted, extraction is fairly simple. If the tooth is more severely impacted, the tooth may need to be broken into smaller pieces before it can be removed.
Dr. Advani will make sure that you are thoroughly numbed and sedated before beginning this procedure. He will discuss your extraction with you ahead of time and explain the anticipated process for removal of your wisdom teeth. Your wisdom teeth may be removed all at the same time, or you may need multiple procedures depending on the severity of the impaction. Dr. Advani's high skill level in Oral Surgery and Wisdom Teeth removal will ensure your visit will go smoothly. Dr. Advani is highly experienced with Oral Surgery and the removal of Wisdom Teeth and is the Oral Surgery doctor on staff at three other offices, where he is the only one performing complicated dental surgeries.
